War Prevention Center – Vokiečių street

During WW2 this area was demolished by soviet Russian forces and the original street plans were destroyed.  This area was chosen due to its painful war memories.  The basic concept of this was to reconstruct the exact shape and dimensions of the original street, but create it for modern uses.

Inside is a war museum that contains 5 periods of history in Lithuania.  The holocaust, the partisan war, Soviet propaganda, Independence and collapsing of the Soviet empire, and the Present day.  Once entering it is an interactive museum, where you learn and experience each of those period through a series of visual representations.  Such as 3D technology, Art, interactive videos and a physical simulation of war situations.  The building is lifted because this area is used by pedestrians on a daily basis, so a sculpture park was created underneath, as well as above the structure.  New activity zones join together, including workshop areas for sculptors and a restaurant area for patrons.
